Idaho Power — located in vibrant Boise, Idaho — is looking for an Associate or Corporate Counsel to join our Legal team. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. Our work plays a critical role in communities we serve across Idaho and Oregon, and we’re working hard to safely provide our customers with the reliable, affordable, clean energy they depend on. While this position is based at Idaho Power’s downtown Boise location, we offer both flexible schedules and the opportunity to work up to 40% remote, once the initial in-person training period has been completed. Relocation assistance may also be provided to the successful candidate.

What does an Associate or Corporate Counsel do for us?

They support the company by providing legal advice and support on a variety of legal issues, depending on practice area assigned.

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

Knowledge:

  • Thorough understanding of contract law and proficiency in legal theories related to contract interpretation, enforcement, and remedies
  • Thorough understanding of essential elements of comprehensive and legally sound contracts
  • General understanding of other areas of law and business within scope of responsibility and where appropriate
    • Sufficient knowledge of the business to be able to reconcile potentially conflicting legal needs and business objectives

Skills and Abilities:

  • Drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and explaining various types of contracts, including purchase agreements, construction agreements, and real estate agreements
  • Advising on a wide range of legal issues that cross multiple areas of law
  • Responding to third-party inquiries or complaints
  • Identifying and mitigating legal risks and engaging in creative and efficient problem-solving
  • Effectively prioritizing and managing multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Learning new areas of law and adapting to changing legal environment
  • Reading, analyzing, and interpreting complex legal and business documents
  • Effectively organizing and presenting complex information in an understandable manner


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Associate Counsel

Education:

  • Juris Doctorate degree

Experience:

  • 2 years of experience practicing law in a relevant specialty at a law firm, large corporate legal department, and/or with the government

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Current membership in a State Bar, and the ability to become licensed to practice law in Idaho within a reasonable time
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position

Corporate Counsel
Education:

  • Juris Doctorate degree

Experience:

  • 5 years of experience practicing law in a relevant specialty at a law firm, large corporate legal department, and/or with the government

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Current membership in a State Bar, and the ability to become licensed to practice law in Idaho within a reasonable time
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people. There may be occasional lifts of no more than 10 lbs. The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position.
