We are seeking a dynamic, experienced candidate to join our law firm as a Research Analyst and Paralegal. The successful candidate will perform legal research, nonlegal research, document retrieval, and related duties as part of the Information Services team. This position is responsible for providing the highest level of service to attorneys and staff across all firm offices. This position reports to the Manager of Information Services.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs complex legal, legislative, company, industry, and other research, including checking citations and Shepardizing cases, using appropriate platforms, resources, and tools, including Lexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, and other online and print based sources.
  • Locates and procures resources and documents from courts, libraries, publishers, government agencies, and other sources in an efficient and cost-effective manner. 
  • Reviews and indexes case materials for attorneys; summarizes transcripts and organizes discovery documents.
  • Organize and index pleadings, discovery demands, response in multi-party and complex discovery cases.
  • Assists in the preparation of legal pleadings: including complaints, answers, discovery demands and responses, motions, cross motions and reply papers, stipulations, orders, and judgments.
  • Familiarity with federal and state court electronic filing procedures and capability to appropriately format and file documents.
  • Participates in training, product trials and continuing education to maintain expert knowledge of firm resources, technology/tools, and legal research trends, and provides instruction on research strategies and resources.
  • Monitors news, dockets, legislation, rulemaking, and other subjects as necessary to assist with current awareness/alerts. 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • BA degree in a related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible work with experience in the areas of legal research and client service; experience in a legal or professional service organization desirable; OR
  • MLS or MSIS degree in library or information science or related field and one (1) to three (3) years of progressively responsible work with experience in the areas of legal research and client service; experience in a legal or professional service organization desirable; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or professional certifications sufficient to indicate the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Strong analytical, information gathering, and problem-solving skills; ability to evaluate and prioritize extensive, detailed data.
  • Collaborative interpersonal and client service skills required to maintain effective relationships with legal and non-legal staff and third-party vendors. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and skill in proofreading complex documents. 
  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to effectively plan work assignments to meet client needs.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently, yet be an active contributor in a focused work team.

Recruiting Information:

  • Competitive compensation dependent upon education and relevance of prior work experience
  • FLSA Classification: Salaried Non-exempt
  • Annual Salary Range: $65,000 - $80,000
