Join our team! We are looking for a talented employment lawyer to join the Legal team at our Space & Missions Systems Sector in Broomfield, Colorado.
In this high visibility, high impact role, you will report to the Sector Chief Counsel, providing legal advice and representation on labor and employment matters. You will be a member of our enterprise employment lawyer team and will work closely with HR, Ethics, and management. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with excellent judgment and experience advising clients on labor and employment matters and managing employment litigation, claims, and disputes.
This position is part of the BAE Systems Legal Department, an enthusiastic and highly productive team where each employee can grow their skills and work on challenging projects.
What You’ll Do:
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

What You’ll Do:
- Serve as a trusted and reliable advisor to Human Resources and key business stakeholders, providing advice and counsel on all aspects of day-to-day employment-related matters, including hiring, promotion and pay equity, discipline and termination, harassment, discrimination and retaliation, leaves of absence, reasonable accommodations, wage and hour compliance, independent contractor issues, internal investigations, and other related matters.
- Represent and defend the Company before administrative agencies (e.g., EEOC, DOL, or equivalent state and local agencies).
- Partner with Human Resources and Ethics on internal investigations of employee relations and ethics matters. Serve as lead investigator in high-level or sensitive matters.
- Review and advise on recruiting and hiring related matters, including conflicts of interest and compliance with post-government employment and revolving door laws.
- Review and advise on involuntary terminations, reductions in force, and draft separation packages, as appropriate.
- Proactively and cost-effectively manage employment litigation, including oversight of outside counsel as appropriate, drafting/reviewing pleadings, developing strategy, facilitating the gathering of information (documents, interviews), and making recommendations at key stages.
- Review and revise personnel policies, procedures, and other Company guidance documents.
- Develop and present timely and user-friendly training to Human Resources and management on employment related topics.
- Review and interpret FAR/DFARS, statutes, government regulations, and Executive Orders; stay current on changes in employment and labor laws and provide tailored advice to stakeholders.
- Provide legal advice in support of affirmative action compliance.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.

Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.
- J.D. from an ABA accredited law school and 8 or more years of related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- Licensed to practice in the United States and eligible to be admitted to state bar as corporate counsel at primary work location.
- 8+ years of experience in a law firm or in-house legal department with a focus on the practice of labor and employment law.
- Knowledge of and experience with key federal and state employment laws and regulations including Title VII, Americans with Disabilities Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, EEO laws, wage and hour laws, background check laws and other federal, state and local laws affecting the employer-employee relationship.
- Experience litigating employment-related lawsuits and agency charges.
- Demonstrated and successful ability to integrate with and provide strategic counsel in a highly regulated environment.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with all levels of management regarding complex employment legal issues.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple priorities and work with various stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently as well as contribute successfully to cross-functional teams.
- Exceptional analytical, negotiation, problem-solving, decision-making, and risk assessment skills.
- Creative problem-solving ability with a focus on achieving client-friendly solutions while managing company risk.
- Prior in-house experience.
