The legal advisor will provide legal research, review, and general legal guidance to the department’s director, senior
management, and divisions. The legal advisor will also be the lead point of contact and liaison between the department and
the Attorney General’s (AG) office on all legal matters, including pending litigation, requests for representation, and referral
requests for AG legal research guidance or review of legal matters. The legal advisor will manage all aspects of process for
delegation of authority, including review of requests to delegate authority from divisions, drafting of delegation of authority
letters, recording and maintaining a delegation of authority log, and reviewing past delegation of authority to division and
recommending changes to the delegation, renewing any delegation necessary, and advising when delegation of authority
should be rescinded. The legal advisor will also serve on internal and external workgroups and lead special projects at the
direction of the department’s director. The position provides day-to-day direction for office staff working on legal/legislative
matters related to department priorities.

- Required Education and Experience
Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.
Juris Doctorate and good standing with State Bar of Michigan is preferred.
Experience
Four years of professional experience, including two years equivalent to the experienced (P11) level or one year equivalent to the advanced (12) level.- Alternate Education and Experience
Education level typically acquired through completion of high school and two years of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 14 level; or, one year of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 15 level, may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.
